Our Company

Safe Harbor Marinas’ Sakonnet Marina is an active, full-service marina and serves as homeport to a variety of recreational boats. Large yachts and sailboats can navigate with confidence as our deep water approach allows for direct access to all Narragansett Bay, and New England, have to offer. Sakonnet Marina is a six-acre spread, between its North and South Yards, offering plenty of service accommodation and storage space. A breakwater protects the South’s 125 slips, while Sakonnet’ s North 189 slips are sheltered by Cedar Island Point-a basin just off the Sakonnet River. Nearly 400 boats are maintained and cared for each year. Our vision is to take all the hassle out of the boating experience and make boating simple and fun!


The Role

Safe Harbor Marinas, the nation’s premier marina owner and operator is seeking a Marine Service Technician to join our growing team at Sakonnet Marina in Portsmouth, RI. This position requires excellent customer service and an understanding of customers’ needs. The successful candidate will join a team of professionals in a busy marina. As part of this role you will be required first and foremost to be dedicated to providing our customers with the best experience possible.

As a Marine Technician you will be responsible to:

• Troubleshoot, test, repair, replace, remove, and install vessel systems and components: electrical, electronics, HVAC, plumbing & water systems (fresh, salt, and waste), hydraulic, mechanical, compressed gas, diesel engines, as assigned by supervisor(s).
• Conduct a thorough assessment prior to starting a job; including acknowledging the budgeted time and time frame for completion, proving the system and the element requiring service, determining/sourcing parts required.
• Ensure operational readiness of charter boats during the charter season (through off-season preventative annual maintenance and in-season repairs).
• Assign parts and purchases to the appropriate vessels/tickets

To be successful in this role it is expected that you will have at least 5 years’ experience in the marine trades or similar, a strong understanding of AC and DC electrical, working knowledge of mechanical and other systems and a keen interest to learn. You must be fit and able to climb a ladder while carrying a battery or tools, comfortable working in small spaces, able to crawl, lift and work outside as well as inside. 

Advantageous to this role would also be the following:
o High School diploma or equivalent
o Working knowledge of electronics
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
o Customer service experience
o ABYC, and manufacturer certifications an advantage
o Demonstrated ability to prioritize and work unsupervised
o Positive attitude and willingness to learn
o Ability to work Saturdays
