Operations Manager– Wickford Boat Rentals

Job Description:
Wickford Boat Rentals (WBR) is the leading recreational boat rental company in the New England area, offering a variety of programs aboard vessels ranging from 19 to 36 feet in length.  This includes daily and short-term (weekly) rentals as well as charters with a Captain and crew member.  In partnership with our sister company, In-Command Seamanship Training, WBR is the only company of its kind that offers vertically integrated training organization with a recreational rental operation.

Reporting directly to the President, the Operations Manager is tasked with managing the day-to-day activities of a very dynamic organization.  This pivotal role is responsible for the following deliverables:
  • Management and mentoring of the waterfront Customer Service team members including the approval of work schedule recommendations promulgated by a senior representative.  The Manager will have the authority adjust the schedule as business demands varies with the schedule;
  • Onboarding of new team members through the interview process to hiring.  Ensure that new hires are appropriately trained in customer skills and boat handling
  • Monitor company email and respond to inquiries, or designate an appropriate team member when the Manager is off, to ensure qualified prospective customer reservations are secured with deposits and dates are confirmed on the master schedule;
  • Transfer training lead opportunities the ICST Program Director or her delegate;
  • Coordinate with the ICST Program Director on charter opportunities to secure a Captain for contracted events; Secure all boats needed for classes and charters ;
  • Overall administrative responsibility for the Captain’s Club program including contracting, updating statements and distributing them to members on request or by the end of the season (Columbus Day) and end of year reconciliation for utilization analysis;
  • Input all rental and charter transactions into the central database for financial reporting, analysis and email communications to clients and prospects;
  • Identify and recommend process improvement options to help optimize the customer experience;
  • Create and launch Constant Contact email communications using the combined WBR and ICST database;
  • Tabulate hours and submit payroll for approval;
  • Monitor equipment inventory and purchase as necessary;
  • Assist in preparing for and attending boat shows (including Newport International Boat Show) and coordinate all details for execution with the ICST Program Director;
  • Train team members in order to appropriately delegate tasks associated with responsibilities assigned in order to ensure continuity of operations when the Manager is off-duty;
  • When possible, assist ICST Program Director with mailing study materials to students and set up class room for upcoming classes;
  • Train and delegate all above responsibilities to other team member to ensure that the daily operations are not compromised when the manager is off duty
When possible, assist ICST DOO with mailings, set up of classroom and registration for classes, answer phone is needed
  • Any other duties as assigned.
The Manager is a working leadership role that combines administrative duties and hands-on activities with the customer service team.  The ideal candidate must have exceptional leadership and customer service skills with excellent boat handling ability.  The candidate must be detail oriented and be able to multi task in a high energy, face paced environment. The ideal candidate must also be skilled in using the Microsoft Office suite and comfortable with technology. 
The traditional season begins May 1st and runs through Columbus Day in October, although this role will start April 15th through the end of October. A rotating schedule with the President or other designated representative will be agreed upon prior to the start of the season.  The projected schedule would be:
  • Three (3) to four (4) days per week in April and May;
  • Four (4) to five (5) days per week from Memorial Day through Labor Day; and
  • Three (3) to four (4) days per week from Labor Day to Columbus Day.  There may be additional time requested after the close of the season to pull boats out of the water and preparing them for winter storage.
